Catalina Bauer (1976)
A Chilean artist who graduated from the School of Visual Arts at the Finis Terrae University in 1998. Catalina Bauer currently lives and works in Santiago, Chile, where besides developing her work she is one of the founders of Taller Bloc (established 2009), an independent art space.
Since 1999 she has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, many of these in Santiago and other Chilean cities such as Coyhaique, Concepción, Talca and Valparaíso. She has exhibited abroad world-wide in countries including Brazil, Mexico, the US, Australia, Spain, England, and Russia. In Mexico she completed a residency and held an exhibition at the Anthropology Museum of Xalapa in 2007, and four years later was invited to the Biennial of Textile Arts, and in Russia she was invited to exhibit at the Fourth Biennial of Contemporary Art in Moscow, in late 2011.
She has received recognition for her work, most notably the AMA Fellowship (2011) which allowed her to take up an art residency at Gasworks, London. The same institution invited her the following year to develop a second project under the Participation Programme, again supported by AMA Foundation. Between 2014 and 2015 she completed a six months residency in Leipzig, Germany, supported by the Chilean Cultural Department (Fondart). And in 2017 she obtained the CCU Art Grant that allowed her to do four month a residency at the ISCP in New York.
Her work is held in private collections within Chile, including the Engel and the Ama Collection, the Collection of the Museum of Visual Arts, and It also forms part of private collections in Switzerland, England, Peru and Germany.
