First Words, 2014
This is the result of a collaboration with the dancer Amelia Ibanez.
This work is part of an interdisciplinary project that refers to the process of learning a language through the creation of an alphabet of movements and postures performed with the body. We used the letters to form words and brief sentences that were presented as a simple choreography. The working methodology is based on the book “El Silabario” published in 1945 by the Chilean teacher Adrian Dufflocq, whose aims were to reduce illiteracy and promote self-learning of the Spanish language.
This work was exhibited in the exhibition New Materialisms, Maternity and New Feminism at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Santiago, Chile. Within the exhibition a performance took place in the main hall of the National Museum of Fine Arts. A few months later it was repeated at the National Library in the form of an unannounced intervention in the Reading Room Gabriela Mistral.
